Yoga and Ayurveda in Goa - Palolem, South Goa

Yoga courses and Ayurveda at Bhakti Kutir, near
Goa's beautiful Palolem beach (January
/February only)


OVERVIEW

Bhakti Kutir ("devotional meditation" in
Sanskrit)is a collection of simple clean huts
blended into the lush jungle on a headland near
Palolem'spalm-fringed beach in southern Goa. In
January -February, they will be hosting 2 and
4-weekyoga courses with optional ayurvedic food,
treatments, massages and cleansing diets.The
unspoilt surroundings, warm tropical climate and
healthy meals of locally-grown organic
vegetables,
exotic fruits and freshly caught fish, make this
an ideal place to relax and tune into the spirit
of India - the motherland of yoga. Alternative
accommodation in simple and clean huts is also
available just next door.

THE YOGA COURSES

The yoga courses are in the tradition of
T.K.Krishnamacharya, the legendary yogi of
thepast
century.

Course Level A:
29 January - 11 February
3.5 hours yoga per day (average).
(You can arrive in the afternoonof course day one
as the first session will be in the late
afternoon.)

Course Level B:
12 - 25 February
3.5 hours yoga per day (average). This second
level B can be booked only after having
participated in level A, or if you have
experience
in this teaching tradition, and after
reconfirmation with the teacher.

Generally there will be 3.5 hours daily
yogamainly
in the mornings and about every third dayin the
afternoons. Every fifth day will be only a 1.5
hour morning session, so the rest of the day is
available for day trips. Every fourth day will be
2hours in the morning and a 1.5 hour afternoon
session. See schedule below.

In addition, a limited number of private yogac
lasses are available (at extra
cost)before,during,
and after the course for special needs or further
deepening of the practice.

During the two or four weeks, you will strengthen
your body, balance your emotional being,clear
your
mind, and set your spirit free again. The course
aims to improve your quality of life through a
safe, thorough and personal isedyogapractice, as
well as through the applicatin of ayurvedic
principles.

Course schedule:

Day 1: 16:00 - 18:00
Day 2: 07:00 - 08:30 and 09:30 - 11:00 and
16:00-18:00
Day 3: 07:00 - 08:30 and 09:30 - 11:00
Day 4: 07:00 - 08:30 and 09:30 - 11:00 and
16:00-18:00
Day 5: 07:00 - 08:30
Days 6 - 14 repeating the pattern of Days 2 - 5

Along with the course, you may also choose the
additional ayurvedic option which includes
treatments, special diets and massages.

Depending on your condition, you will start with
easy meditative movements to balance your system
and align your physical structure. As you
increase
flexibility and strength, you will gradually move
onto more complex postures. As breathing is
thekey
element in this type of yoga, you will be
protected from overstraining or hurting
yourself(your breath will tell you how far you
can
go).Therapeutic effects of the asanas are brought
about through correct breathing interlinked
withmovement - the flow of Prana, the healing
factorin yoga, is strongly connected to
breathing.You will gain improved well being, deep
relax at ion and the ability to sit quietly in
meditation.

THE TEACHER

The course teacher Eliaz Caden (born 1954) has
been connected to yoga since 1979. He was trained
in thetradition of the Great
MasterT.Krishnamacharya,first by R.Sriram and for
several years he has been working with
A.G.Mohanand continues to study with the teachers
in this tradition: DV Sridhar and hiswife Radha,
and VijiVasu at the Yoga Raksanam Institut in
Madras.(T.K's teaching has been the most
influential int he modern world of yoga and inthe
early years hetrained B.K.Iyengar,
PathabiJoyce/Astanga andother well known
teachers). Eliaz Caden has also studied other
disciplines in thebody/mind/spiritfield
(including
Lomi School 1982;Shiatsu Dr.Ming 1980). Since
1976
he has spentmore than 6years in India and
currently conducts private and group yoga
classes,
yoga therapy and teacher trainings in India,
Europe and Hong Kong.

WHO GOES?

The course is open for beginners as well as for
those who already have yoga experience. (It can
also be used as a base to become a yoga
instructor
in this teaching tradition in aforth coming
training in your country or maybe again in
India).All participants will have one private
yoga
assessment at the beginning to determine the
individual's constitution which will be takenin
to
consideration throughout the course. All two and
four week course participants will receive a
certificate for their completed level, A and B.

Note: In case you have any non-major
problems,likestress, backpain, blood pressure,
under-oroverweight, skin clarity, depressive
tendencies or smoking, which you want to solve,
please mention and describe before arrival.
Serious diseases are not treated within this
setting, and deeply invasive treatments like
panchakarma are notdone.In order to meet your
individual needs, will be sent to you if you sign
upfor the Ayurveda option.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

In addition to the two daily yoga classesand
optional massage/Ayurvedic treatments, the day's
activities are simple: laze in your hammock,
wander down to Palolem's beautiful curved stretch
of golden sand, play in the gentle surf, check
out
the beach shack cafes, watch the sunset and
stroll
back to this nature retreat. On days off you may
want to do day trips to the famous Goan
fleamarket
in northern Goa, various cultural sites, nature
reserves, or to the unique Brahmin town Gokarna
in
the neighbour state Karnataka.
